The Benefits of Abhyanga Massage

What is Abhyanga?

Abhyanga is a traditional Ayurvedic technique of massaging the whole body with warm, herbal oil. It can be a self-massage or performed by a practitioner. The massage is typically performed by a trained Ayurvedic practitioner or a massage therapist, who will use warm oil that has been infused with specific herbs and spices to balance all the doshas.

Abhyanga massage is a holistic healing practice that can promote overall health and well-being by addressing the mind, body and spirit. Regular abhyanga massages can be a great way to maintain balance and prevent the onset of various health conditions.

What to expect during your Abhyanga Massage?

As soon as you step into our clinic, the ambience of care and warm welcome you. Have a cup of tea and meet our team who will discuss your goals and ask you about any health conditions that might impact your abhyanga.

Our massage spaces have been designed to have a warm, peaceful and comfortable setting.

The massage typically begins with the practitioner applying warm oil and massaging it into the scalp & hair. Our abhyanga begins with a facial massage with a special skin oil, while stimulating the marma points that relieve stress, and improve skin tone. Your job? To melt on the table and allow the oils to do their job.

The massage is performed using long strokes and gentle pressure, with a focus on the marma points (energy points) of the body. We pay attention to the entire body, including the limbs, back, stomach, and chest, while ensuring your comfort and confidence.

The practitioner uses a combination of different strokes & techniques to work the oil into the skin and muscles.

After the massage, you can rest for a few mins and enjoy a cup of warm  herbal tea.

An optional add-on of a steam bath to allow the oils to soak deeper and to sweat out any toxins is available, and must be reserved ahead of time.
